Supporting International Youth Day

Since we first established Donkeylogic, we have been very keen to support local youngsters as they start on their own career path. In total we have had 19 young people joining us on work placements and works experience projects. They have come from across nearly all the island’s high schools and colleges and have taken on a wide range of tasks and projects.

About International Youth Day

There are currently 1.8 billion young people between the ages of 10 and 24 in the world. This is the largest youth population ever. But one in 10 of the world’s children live in conflict zones and 24 million of them are out of school. Political instability, labour market challenges and limited space for political and civic participation have led to increasing isolation of youth in societies.

International Youth Day is held each year on the 12th of August and is an initiative that celebrates the qualities of young people and that recognises the challenges that today’s youth can face. It’s not just to protect them, but to include them in the development of communities around the world, whether they’re rich or poor.

International Youth Day began in 2000 and was organised by the United Nations to celebrate the contribution that young people make in education, employment, conflict resolution and social justice to name a few. With employment being one of the key focal areas, we are proud to be doing our bit!

Some of our work placement students have written about their own personal experiences of working with us which you can find in our blog.
