Works Experience – James Peek

Greetings traveller, my name is James Peek and I'll be your guide for today.

One week of work experience complete and it sure was an experience!

I started the week by sitting down with Rob Wood and introduced me to the database management system, Microsoft SQL, and the coding language behind retrieving information from the databases with it. The team set me up with a Mac, training laptop and desk and I got to work on some SQL exercise questions. It certainly took me some time to get my head around it!

The next day Jordan Travers gave some basic training with using HTML and CSS to construct web pages from a blank file, after completing a very crude page filled with me rambling about chairs as filler text, I was set the task of recreating the BBC homepage entirely from scratch.

At lunch times I would take a short walk down to the nearby Waitrose and take my lunch back to office and in my breaks played digital chess with, Ben, the other works experience student from my school year who was also running the same works experience placement here at Donkeylogic.

On Thursday I had the opportunity to go on a call-out with Scott Guilbert to help someone who was having trouble with their TV, iPad and Emails in town.

Through out the week I experienced the four services of the company, Data, Design, Systems and Support and the experience gave me good insight into office life to help me decide on where I should take my options on the future ahead.

Thanks Donkeylogic!
